Walk-off single gives Palmatier, Bobcats first win of season
BAINBRIDGE – In the bottom of the seventh inning, Bobcat Thomas Palmatier hit a single to drive Trevor Halaquist for the winning run against Unadilla Valley on Monday.
Halaquist started off the bottom of the inning with a single. On a 1-2 count in his at-bat, Palmatier lined a shot for his late game heroics as Halaquist scored from first.
The game started with the first three innings remaining scoreless. In the top of the fourth, the Storm scored a run to grab a 1-0 lead.
Unadilla Valley was able to hold onto the one run advantage until the bottom of the fifth inning when B-G tacked three runs.
The Bobcats got the inning started by a base hit followed by a stolen base. Later in the fifth, Evan Hyzer drove in one runner and Mason Brown added two more RBI’s as Bainbridge-Guilford took a 3-1 lead.
The Storm scored a run in both the top of sixth and seventh to tie the score at 3-3.
Then Palmatier helped his own cause on the mound, hitting the walk-off to grab the win. Palmatier allowed three runs on five hits over the course of a complete game outing.
Colin Grant started on the mound for the Storm. Over the four and two-thirds pitched, Grant struck-out two batters but Bainbridge-Guilford recorded three hits and three runs.
Coming in for relief, Cameron Osborne was the UV pitcher that took the loss after one and two-thirds innings of work. He gave up four hits and one run while striking out three.
UV was aggressive on the base paths, tallying a total of five steals. Osborne led with two. The Storm’s Payton Stirone and Adam Lamont each had two hits in the loss, counting for four of the five hits by the visiting team.
Seven different Bainbridge-Guilford batters recorded hits in the home win.
B-G (1-0) travels to Delhi on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. On the same day and at the same time, Unadilla Valley (0-1) heads to Unatego.
