The Place extends shoe drive benefiting Teen Program & impoverished countries
NORWICH – The Place has extended its shoe drive benefiting its Teen Program through May 1, according to Teen Program Coordinator Breanne Krucher.
The Teen Program at The Place helps give teens educational opportunities outside the classroom, said Krucher.
"The funds will help with the cost of educational programs with Rogers Center, the Capitol Building in Albany, Corning Museum of Glass, along with [funding] guest speakers to come out and speak with teens about careers, money management, healthy living and prepare them for their future," said Krucher.
Gently used and new shoes can be donated at The Place, Norwich High School, Perry Browne Intermediate School, Gibson Elementary School, Commerce Chenango, the United Church of Christ, and Broad Street Methodist Church.
After the shoe drive's end, Krucher said Funds2Orgs will purchase the donated shoes from The Place and will then redistribute the shoes to those in need in developing nations through the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners.
"Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain, and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras, and other nations in Central America and Africa," said Krucher. "Proceeds from the show sales are used to feed, clothe, and house their families."
Krucher expressed The Place's excitement about its progress with the shoe drive so far, adding, "We are hopeful to meet our goal within the next month."
