10 republican chairs unanimously endorse McBride for State Supreme Court
NORWICH – Chenango County District Attorney Joe McBride has been unanimously endorsed in this year’s race for New York State Supreme Court Judge by all ten Republican Chairs within the Sixth Judicial District. The endorsement took place at a meeting on the Chairs last night in Norwich.
McBride is running for a seat on the State Supreme Court covering the Sixth Judicial District, which encompasses all of Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Madison, Otsego, Schuyler, Tioga and Tompkins Counties. The vacancy in this office was created by the recent retirement of Judge Kevin Dowd.
“It’s an honor to have the support of the leaders of the Republican Committees across all ten counties in the Sixth Judicial District,” said McBride. “I’ve dedicated my life and career to serving the people of our region as District Attorney for 18 years and in private legal practice earlier in my career. This experience has prepared me well for the challenging cases that face a State Supreme Court Judge.”
During his nearly 35 years working in the criminal justice system, District Attorney McBride has extensive and wide-ranging experience, having handled over 1,600 felony cases, over 60 jury trials, and prosecution of nearly all Chenango County homicides since 1999.
In fact, he is currently prosecuting a murder trial in Chenango County Court. Jury selection for the trial took place last week, and the trial is currently in process.
Before becoming District Attorney, McBride also operated a successful private civil Supreme Court practice throughout the region.
“Experience as a seasoned litigator in this court should be a prerequisite for all who aspire to hold the position of State Supreme Court Judge as it provides the tools necessary to effectively handle and preside over the very serious and personal cases uniquely heard in this forum while protecting the rights of the litigants,” he added.
McBride's supporters say he is a proven vote-getter, having won countywide elections for District Attorney six times.
He has been a longstanding and dedicated member of his community, including service with the Norwich City School Board, Chenango County Youth Board, Multi-Disciplinary Task Force for Abused Children, Chenango County Traffic and Safety Commission, St. Paul’s Church, Knights of Columbus, Chenango Foundation (past President), Hospice (past Vice President), Northeast Classic Car Museum (past Secretary), Chenango County Chamber of Commerce, Norwich Little League, District Attorney’s Association of the State of NY, and former Adjunct Professor Morrisville State College.
