Model Train Club invites community to join in the fun
GREENE – The trains are preparing to leave the station, and the Greene Model Railroad Club will welcome anyone aboard for its annual Spring Train Show.
This year's Spring Train Show will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 21 in the Berean Bible Church (109 County Route 2, Greene, NY), and is free for all to attend.
The Greene Model Railroad Club invites those with children who are interested in model trains to come as well, and the group provide a table with trains for children to operate. Throughout the event food will be available for all, and guests can expect to see several model trains in action, along with model train vendors for those who wish to purchase their own.
"When we first purchased our trains there weren't many other people that had model trains in our church," said Greene Model Railroad Secretary, Donna Moorhead.
Moorhead said that eventually the few that did have trains wanted to meet more often and inspire others to come as well, so they started a group at their local church, and from there membership started to pick up.
"A lot of private entrepreneurs have reached out to us to be present at the event, and we're happy to have them there," she said. "Now if a person wants to purchase their own model railroad they can."
"The Spring Train Show is open to everyone, and we expect, based on prior years, to see around 100 people show up," said Moorhead.
She added that she looks forward to seeing people at the event, and she hopes that it will inspire others to pick-up the model train hobby as well.
For those interested in donating, a free will offering will be open throughout the day.
