No injuries after school bus and tractor trailer collide near Chobani
COLUMBUS – A Unadilla Valley school bus collided with a tractor trailer Wednesday morning, causing minor damage to the bus. No students were injured.
The Unadilla Valley School District released an official statement on the accident and said the school bus was headed down County Route 25 during the morning bus run. “The bus was carrying three students and two bus monitors at the time of the accident near the Chobani plant in the town of Columbus.”
“Emergency responders evaluated the students, monitors and the driver and determined there were no injuries. Parents and/or guardians were notified by the school district, and administrators immediately responded to the scene,” the school stated.
According to the New Berlin Fire Chief Barry Jacobs, there were three students on the bus when it collided with a tractor trailer, but fortunately none were injured.
“The bus was headed down County Route 25 when it collided with a tractor trailer pulling out onto the street,” said Jacobs “There is a dent in bus, but we’re just happy the kids are okay.”
Jacobs said a smaller bus from the Unadilla Valley School District transported the students safely from the accident before the New Berlin Fire Department left the scene.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation to determine who was at fault.
