4-hit day for Thornton and Barber leads Lady Bobcats past Lady Purple Tornado

NORWICH – Kori Thornton and Bree Barber each recorded four hits against the Purple Tornado pitchers Saturday afternoon, leading the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats to a 12-1 win.
Thornton singled in her first three at-bats and added a double in the seventh, while Barber singled twice and doubled twice.
Bainbridge-Guilford started the scoring in the first inning when Megan Palmatier drove in two when she singled. The Bobcats added two run in the second and one in the fifth before tallying five in the sixth inning, their highest scoring inning of the game.
Thornton, Jillian Cannistra, Kassidy Davy, and Ashley Matthews each recorded RBIs in the frame.
Norwich scored their lone run in the bottom of the second inning. Airelle Jacqutte lined a shot to right field in the fifth pitch of her plate appearance and sprinted the base-path for a triple. She later scored as Ava Granquist hit a line drive single to the second baseman.
Thornton led the Bobcats to victory in the pitcher’s circle, only surrendering the one Tornado run on four hits over five innings of work while striking out four and walking one. Morgan Neidig threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Olivia Granquist took the loss for Norwich, allowing just three hits and no walks.
The Bobcats racked up 15 hits in the game to the Purple Tornado’s four.
Last Wednesday, Norwich scored three runs in the second inning against the Lady Saints of Seton Catholic. With a triple by Jacquette and a single by Payten Sawyer, the Lady Tornado extended their lead by four runs.
Seton took a late game lead in the top of the sixth when Norwich made an error and allowed two Saints to cross the plate. Before the error, the game was tied at 5-5.
Norwich struck early in the game when Morgan Conkling doubled in the first inning. Conkling jumped on the first pitch of the at bat sending a shot that was able to score one run and her to pick up the extra base hit.
Alex Colley was in the circle for the Purple for the full seven innings of play. She ended the game with 12 strikeouts while allowing five hits and two earned runs.
Norwich heads to Oneonta as they look to swat the Yellowjackets Monday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. The Lady Bobcats will play at the game time when they travel to Deposit on Monday as well.

Delhi grabbed an early lead in the top of first inning because of walks that allowed two Lady Bulldogs to cross the plate.
Fighting back in the bottom of the inning, Oxford was able to put up three runs. However, those were the only runs scored by the home team in the game as Delhi took the win 13-1.
The Lady Blackhawks had a hard time on both sides of the ball. Struggling to put runs on the board, Oxford left 12 runners on base. Defensively, they had a hard time hold the Lady Bulldogs.
Hannah Ryan took the loss for Oxford Academy Blackhawks Varsity as she lasted one-third of an inning, allowing zero hits and four runs. Her teammate Allison Beckwtich came on in relief for the rest of the game picking up 16 strikeouts in 141 pitches.
Jessie Howe led the Blackhawks with two hits in four at bats while teammates Lexi Kohlhepp, Caitlyn Quigley and Lillianna Gonzalez all recorded a RBI.
Oxford will host Harpursville Monday afternoon, looking for their first win of the season. Game is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start.
