Bobcats shutout Blackhawks; Afton takes close one over Trojans

OXFORD – Tom Palamtier, Evan Hyzer and Trevor Halaquist combined for seven innings of shutout work on the mound, allowing just three hits as Bainbridge-Guilford defeated Oxford 9-0 on Friday.
The Blackhawks offense produced early as their first came with the first batter of the game, Nick Cirello, after seeing two pitches. Cirello sent a fly ball to left field and B-G’s outfielder was unable to get to the ball in time as it dropped, allowing the Blackhawk to reach first.
Brad Beckwith and Jason Davis also singled in the inning but a double play before their successful trips at the plate and a fly out to left field left them on base.
Bainbridge-Guilford rallied for three runs in the sixth inning. Bobcat’s Garrett Ives scored by stealing home, Hyzer scored with a fielder’s choice out to get Halaquist at first and Palmatier scoring from second on Hayden Burns single to center.
The Bobcats scored at least one in the remaining innings, tallying nine runs on nine hits for the game.
Palmatier started on the mound for B-G, giving up just the three Oxford hits in the first, he struck out four while allowing no runs for the Blackhawks.
Davis got the start for Oxford, lasting three innings on the mound before Cirello threw two frames in relief. Beckwith finished the game on the rubber for the Bobcats last at-bats.
Burns and Ferrera each managed two hits to lead the offense for Bainbridge-Guilford. Ferrera and teammate Gage Strong each recorded a double in the game.
Oxford is scheduled to host Unadilla Valley Tuesday afternoon while the Bobcats will travel to Greene. Both games are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.

AFTON – Afton’s Colin Nabinger held Greene to just five hit as he three a complete game shutout on the mound as the Crimson Knights grabbed 3-0 home victory on Saturday afternoon.
Nabinger struck out 13 Trojans batters in a 105 pitches thrown. 76 of his pitch count were called strikes.
Afton grabbed one run in the first inning as Nabinger helped his own causing by driving in teammate Vince Caiati with his double to left field.
The home Crimson Knights picked up another two runs in the fourth. As a team, Afton combined for seven hits. Both Nabinger and Caiati scored a run in the contest and went 2-for-3 at the plate for the afternoon. Brady Buttice also picked up a RBI.
Greene’s Alec Frair took the loss after six innings of work. He surrendered three runs on seven hits over six innings and struck out three Crimson Knight batter.
Frair had a strong day at the plate, leading the Trojans with two hits in three at bats.
Greene host the Bobcats Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. while Afton hosts the Harpursville Hornets at the same time.
