Otselic Valley reviews superintendent candidates

SOUTH OTSELIC – The Otselic Valley Board of Education has announced two final candidates for the position of superintendent.

Each of the candidates will introduce themselves, interview with a variety of district committees, and answer questions from the school community during an open forum in the school's gym.

The public interviews will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the school gym on May 7 and 8.

Dr. Jonathan Nicoletti, a candidate who has experience as the assistant superintendent at the Waterloo Central School District, will be interviewing on May 7.

Mr. Robert Berson, a candidate who is currently the business administrator for Otselic Valley Central School, will be interviewing on May 8.

According to the Otselic Valley District Clerk Gail Burpee, the pay for the superintendent will be between $110,000 to $130,000.

In December 2017, the Otselic Valley Board of Education began their search for a new superintendent with DCMO BOCES District Superintendent Perry Dewey assisting with the process.

Burpee said the school's previous Superintendent Daniel Henner, had been with the district for six-and-a-half years before he left for a job as an assistant superintendent of the Liverpool Central School District.

She explained that a retired superintendent from the Oxford school district named, Grayson Stevens, has been filling in for Henner while the school searches for a long-term replacement.

To assist in the search, Burpee said the board of Education asked the educational community for key characteristics of an effective superintendent, and upon their responses a brochure was developed setting the standard for potential applicants.

The school advertised the qualifications to include, "New York State certification as a school district administrator, instructional leader, financial officer with a working knowledge of school budget construction, long-range planner, communicator, interactive with students and staff, child-centered, and a problem solver."

The board of education stated it has selected the two candidates as finalists following a rigorous screening and interview process questioning applicants to see if they possessed the qualities listed on the brochure.
