Norwich Emergency Management to host disaster preparedness training

NORWICH – Norwich Emergency Management will be hosting a New York State Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program from 10 a.m. to noon at the Norwich High School on Saturday, May 19 to better prepare people responding to natural or man-made disasters.

The training is free and open to the public. Attendees must pre-register at www.prepare.ny.gov.

Norwich Emergency Management Director A. Wesley Jones briefed the city joint committees about the training on Tuesday, and said the last time the training was held in Norwich, it was "quite successful" and "a very nice program."

The Citizen Preparedness Corps training will serve to give attendees tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster, to respond accordingly, and to recover quickly.

Jones said attendees will also have to opportunity to ask experts questions at the program.

The Citizen Preparedness Corps was formed by the NYS Department of Homeland Security, the NYS National Guard, and the NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control in February 2014.

The last time NYS Citizen Preparedness Corps hosted a Training Program working with local emergency management personnel at Norwich High School was in November 2014.

Each family that attends will be given a free NYS Disaster Preparedness Kit containing key items to assist them in the immediate aftermath of a disaster.

Norwich High School is located at 49 Midland Drive.
