Chenango SPCA offers free adoptions for a day
NORWICH – As part of the BISSEL Pet Foundation’s national “Empty the Shelters” initiative this Saturday, the Chenango SPCA will offer free adoptions of its dogs and cats from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
104 cats and 16 dogs of various breeds, genders, and ages will be up for adoption free-of-charge on Saturday.
Chenango SPCA Program Coordinator Danelle Nolan said, “Most of our animals are spayed or neutered, everyone’s vaccinated, everyone’s temperament tested, and everyone’s microchipped.”
In the event a dog or cat is adopted that is not spayed or neutered, surgical fees would apply to the adopter, Nolan said, but with that exception, the adoption day is free-of-charge.
“We have adult cats, we have adult dogs, we do have a few puppies – a mixture of genders, breeds, ages – just a really good mixture, so I think anybody could find the animal they’re looking for here,” said Nolan.
Chenango SPCA is encouraging people to pre-apply to adopt an animal as applications must first be approved before animals can be adopted. Adoption forms can be obtained at the shelter located at 6160 County Road 32 in Norwich, or online at www.chenangospca.org/cspca-forms-and-applications/.
The free adoption day is at no charge to the CSPCA because the BISSEL Pet Foundation is reimbursing the shelter for adoption fees, Nolan said. It is Chenango SPCA’s second free adoption day sponsored by the BISSEL Pet Foundation, the first being in September 2017.
