High scoring affair game goes to the Lady Trojans; Norwich loses close one on senior night; Bobcats finish MAC at 10-1
NEW BERLIN – The runs poured in like the rain Thursday afternoon as the Lady Trojans and the hosting Unadilla Valley Storm combined for a total of 38 runs on 37 hits. Greene was able to come out with the 23-15 victory after scoring 11 in the final two innings of play.
The Lady Storm tallied seven on the scoreboard after the first inning to lead 7-1. Greene added one run in both the second and third to cut the lead down to four but hit their stride in the fourth, scoring eight to take an 11-7 advantage.
UV, however, answered with four runs to tie the game at 11-11 in the bottom of the fourth frame.
In the fifth, the Trojans scored one to once again take the lead. Rallying back was Unadilla Valley, causing yet another lead change for the game when two more runners across the plate.
Greene went ahead for good with six runs scored in the sixth and ensured the win with five additional runs in the last trip to the plate for the contest. The Storm were able to muster up two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough for the comeback bid.
The Trojans recorded a total of 29 hits in their 46 total trips to the plate. Alex Brown went 6-for-7, recording six RBI’s. Three of her hits were for extra bases, as she had two doubles and a triple.
Brown’s teammate, Ashley Kenyon ,went a perfect 5-for-5 in her at-bats and scored four runs. She had two doubles in the game.
Teresa Burgharct, Kristen White and Regan Sabines had two hits in four at-bats. Sabines picked up two RBIs while Burgharct knocked in three UV runners.
White reached third in one plate appearance while teammate Novalee Davis had a double.
Greene’s game with the Afton Crimson Knights on Wednesday was a different story.
The Trojans scored eight runs before Afton was able to send one runner across the plate.
With three runs tallied already, Greene tacked on five more in the top of the fourth to hold an 8-0 advantage over the home team.
The Crimson Knights however, fought back by chipping away at the Trojan lead in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
In the sixth, Afton scored four big runs to bring their deficit down to one run. The Lady Knights shutdown Greene in the top of the seventh, giving themselves a shot to score at least one run and force extra softball.
But Olivia Kennedy, the Trojans’ ace in the circle, held Afton to no runs to in the final inning, giving herself and the Trojans a victory.
Greene and Afton are off until Monday while the Storm are scheduled to host Harpursville at 4:30 p.m.
On Monday, the Crimson Knights will travel to Walton while the Lady Trojans will host Tioga. UV is also scheduled to host Sidney. All games on Monday will start at 4:30 p.m.

NORWICH – The Lady Tornado held the visiting Windsor squad scoreless in the first inning, but the Lady Black Knights scored five in the middle four innings to defeat Norwich 5-0 on their senior night.
Before the game, head coach Jim Sanford honored his five seniors: Peyton Seiler, Lauren Llewellyn, Alex Colley, Airelle Jacquette and Ana Concado.
Getting out of the first inning with a clean slate was Norwich’s starter Alex Colley. Colley controlled her pitches throughout the game but really hit her groove in the first frame. Her defense stood behind her, making great stops and nice plays.
However, Windsor slowly gained a five run lead by scoring one in the next three innings and adding two in the top of the fifth.
Triniti Myers of the Purple Tornado picked up the lone hit of the game for the home team when she lined a pitch between the first and second baseman, dropping it just into the outfield.
Myers also reached base in the sixth with a walk. Her teammate Colley got on base due to a Windsor error by an outfielder.
Norwich will travel to Binghamton on Friday afternoon to face the Saints of Seton Catholic. The game will start at 4:30 p.m. at the BAGSI softball complex, located just past SUNY Broome.

BAINBRIDGE – In a battle on the mound between Bobcats’ Kori Thornton and Sidney’s Olivia DeMott, Bainbridge-Guilford prevailed in the fourth inning, scoring two runs to lead 3-1. The Bobcats held on for the next two frames for the win over the Lady Warriors on Thursday afternoon.
The runs scored by B-G were brought in by Megan Palmatier’s single on the second pitch of her at-bat.
Both Thornton and DeMott had their struggles in the pitching circle as the game started out in a rain storm, making the dirt and ball slippery and tough to hold onto.
Once the rain settled, the pitchers did as well.
The Bobcats were able to get on the scoreboard in their first trip to plate for the contest as Palmatier scored on a passed ball.
Sidney answered with Adrienne Paternoster’s ground ball single that went straight up the middle, reaching centerfield. The hit scored Lilly Hinkley to tie the game at 1-1.
B-G took the lead for good with Palmatier’s single in the fourth.
“Sidney came to play tonight and played well,” said Bobcats head coach Randy Palmatier. “Once again, in a big spot, Megan [Palmatier] came through for us.”
In the final three offensive innings for the Lady Warriors, Sidney recorded three hits but were unable to send any runners across home plate.
Palmatier was the only batter for either team to record two hits, doing so in four chances at the plate. Her last at-bat proved to be the game deciding hit, driving in her two RBIs in the game.
Jill Cannistra and Thornton singled for the other two Bainbridge-Guilford hits.
On Tuesday, B-G scored in all but the first inning against Greene, winning 16-0.
Thornton went 4-for-4 at the plate, driving in three runs for the game. She started in the circle against the Trojans, striking out 12 while allowing just six hits in the shutout win.
Alli Miller came in for relief and struck out two.
Olivia Kennedy pitched all seven innings for Greene. Kennedy recorded nine strikeouts in the loss.
Before the game, Coach Palmatier recognized the Bobcats seniors: Megan Palmatier, Morgan Swartsout, Jill Cannistra and Molly O’Hara.
With their back-to-back wins, B-G is now 15-1 overall for the season. Following their game with Sidney on Thursday, the Bobcats completed their MAC conference schedule with a record of 10-1. The only loss was to Deposit a few weeks back. Bainbridge-Guilford will now wait for the next game to be announced.
