BINGHAMTON – At the American East banquet on Tuesday evening, the All-Conference teams were announced. Receiving a selection to the American East First Team was former Norwich graduate and current-Binghamton Bearcat Kassidy Seary.
In her sophomore year, Seary was named to an All-Conference for the first time in her NCAA Division-I career. With the impeccable stats she has obtained both in the field as well as at the plate, Seary’s selection was an obvious choice to the conference committee––but not so much to Seary, as the honor came as a surprise to Bearcats’ first baseman.
“I honestly wasn’t expecting to get second team All-Conference, let alone first team,” said Seary. “I’m completely grateful to not only my coaching staff for giving me the opportunity but my team as well.
“My teammates pushed me day in and day out do be the best player I could be and, even on my worst days, they were there to pick me up on and off the softball field.”
Binghamton made it to the second round in the winner’s bracket of the American East Conference Championship tournament with a 3-1 win over Maine on Wednesday. On Thursday, the University of Albany defeated the Bearcats 9-0, sending the tournament host to the loser’s backet. Needing to win every game to have a shot at the conference championship, Maine avenged their loss from one day earlier and topped the Bearcats in a close 4-3 win.
Seary ended her second year on the Binghamton roster with a .283 batting average, fourth on the team. She finished with 32 hits in 113 at-bats. 11 of the 32 were doubles and she hit two home runs.
“I’m just extremely happy for what Binghamton softball has done for me so far and I can’t wait and see what the next two years have in store,” said Seary.
She was second on the team in the RBI column, recording 29 for the season.
In her freshman year, Seary appeared in just seven games with two starts.
Before joining the Bearcats one season ago, Seary was a two-time NYSSWA All-State selection as well as a four time STAC Division honoree at Norwich.
She ended her career as a Purple Tornado with a batting average of .416 with 68 RBIs and 11 home runs. Seary broke a New York State record and tied a national one by hitting two grand slams in one inning.
