Lady Storm uses big sixth inning to secure win over Delhi
NEW BERLIN – Five runs in the sixth inning by the Unadilla Valley Storm captured a win at home on Wednesday. UV topped the Delhi Bulldogs 8-2 in their final MAC conference game of the 2018 season.
Regan Sabines wasn’t satisfied with the Storm’s 3-0 lead at the time. Stepping up the plate, Sabines sent a rocket out to center field on the first pitch of the at-bat. The ball was deep enough to allow her to round the bases for a home run, her fifth of the season.
One UV batter later, Kristen White hit a pop fly to center field and ended up on second for a double. She stole third base on the next pitch.
The Storm’s Novalee Davis sent her across home plate as she hit a hard ground ball to the second baseman, recording an RBI single. Davis scored later in the inning on a passed ball. On back-to-back passed balls, Jenna Hitt scored the fourth run of the frame.
Continuing the scoring rally was Unadilla Valley’s Meegan White with an RBI single, sending Teresa Burgharct across home plate. Burgharct was the last run of the game scored by the Storm.
Delhi hit back-to-back singles in the top of the seventh, which led to their two runs being.
UV’s Russo started in the circle and shut down the Lady Bulldogs, allowing just the two runs in the final plate appearance for the Bulldogs. She recorded six strike outs in her full seven innings of work.
Maddy White of Delhi was dealt the loss on Wednesday, pitching the full six innings against Unadilla Valley.
UV tallied 11 hits as a team in the contest. Meegan White led the Storm at the plate with three hits in three at-bats. Kristen White and Davis finished with two hits each while Davis led UV in the RBI column with two.
The Storm head to the Mudville Tournament this Saturday. Their first game of the day will take place at 11 a.m. against Madison. Immediately following the conclusion of game one, UV will face Milford for the second game. The two games will be their final two games of the 2018 season.
