SYRACUSE – Cody Beckwith pitched a complete game, allowing zero runs, and striking out eight Bishop Ludden batters as Sherburne-Earlville took home a 3-0 win in the first round of the Section III Class C tournament Monday afternoon.
Offensively, Dawson Lagoe led the way for the Marauders. In the second inning, Lagoe drove in two teammates with one of his two hits for the game to give S-E a 2-0 lead early in the contest.
In the fifth, Lagoe used his other hit to drive in the Marauders third run.
With Beckwith pitching a gem of a game throughout, only pitching harder as the win was insight, Sherburne-Earlville only needed the three runs to win the game.
“I’m very proud of my baseball team,” said Marauders head coach Jay Tackabury. “We’ve had a tough season, full of ups and downs. I feel our win was a reward for all the hard work my guys have put in over the course of the season.”
Noah Posson, Vinny Albertina, and Brandon Howard each recorded one hit as S-E finished with five hits for the game.
Beckwith surrendered five hits on the mound but none of the Bishop Ludden were any sort of threat to the Marauders lead.
Sherburne-Earlville is scheduled to travel to Pulaski, the top seed of the Class C bracket, Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. for round two of sectionals. If they pull off the upset, S-E will play again on Wednesday.
