BID to submit grant proposal to NYS Main Street Program
NORWICH –The Norwich Business Improvement District (BID) announced this week that it will be submitting a proposal to the New York State Main Street (NYMS) program for grant funds to help support downtown revitalization efforts.
Administered by the Office of Community Renewal (OCR) under the direction of the Housing Trust Fund Corporation (HTFC), the NYMS program funds are used to stimulate reinvestment in properties located within mixed-use commercial districts located in urban, small town, and rural areas of New York State.
Grant funds can be used toward building, façade or interior renovations, as well as streetscape enhancements. Private owner-occupied properties are generally not eligible.
As part of the grant proposal, BID will be requesting funds to support individual downtown projects and is currently accepting applications from businesses and property owners located within the BID (visit nowichbid.com for the BID map). P
riority will be given to (1) projects that are visually prominent on Main Street, (2) projects that include renovation of upper story residential units, (3) projects with historic value or historic properties in danger of being lost in part or in total to disrepair or damage, and (4) projects that with the assistance of grant funds, will reduce blight, contribute to the economic recovery of the target area, or realize a stabilization or expansion of a Main Street business.
Applicants must be able to leverage dollars toward their project. Applications are due May 31, 2018.
