BAINBRIDGE – The Lady Bobcats took control of Thursday’s Section IV quarterfinal game earlier and never looked back, running away with a 12-3 win over the fifth-seeded Moravia.
Bainbridge-Guilford’s Morgan Neidig meant business in the circle against Moravia as she allowed just one hit in her six-and-a-third innings’ work. Neidig received a 7-0 run cushion at the end of the fourth inning and cruised the rest of the way.
The Bobcats offensive added another five to scoreboard in the sixth inning, securing their 12-3 victory at the plate.
Jill Cannistra, Kori Thornton, and Megan Palmatier – the Bobcats top three in the batting order – each recorded three hits in the game, counting for half of B-G’s hit total, which was 12 as a team.
Thornton and Palmatier each reached second on one of their hits, picking up doubles for the Bobcats. Palmatier was joined by teammate Bree Barber for a triple in the game.
Palmatier led in the RBI column for the game, finishing with six RBIs. Barber and Kassidy Davy both drove in two B-G runners during the contest along with Ashley Matthews, who drove in one.
The three runs for Moravia came from their final at-bats in the seventh.
“Morgan Neidig was awesome on the mound,” said Bobcats head coach Randy Palmatier. “I thought she threw her best game of the year.”
“Palmatier was huge for us offensively,” he added.
Neidig struck out five batters throughout her time on the rubber.
Bainbridge-Guilford now travels to Elmira on Thursday to face the top seed of the bracket, Thomas A. Edison. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
