White Store Church and Evergreen Cemetery invites public to Memorial Day service

SOUTH NEW BERLIN – White Store Church and Evergreen Cemetery is inviting the public to attend its Memorial Day service on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Pastor Kurt Funke, who is also Officiating President/Vice President of Evergreen Cemetery Association and White Store Church (ECWSC), will lead the services, with remarks from author Sharon Donahe, veteran Ted Ellingsen, and ECWSC Treasurer Patricia Greene.

ECWSC Secretary Margie Casey said Donahe will speak about the Evergreen Cemetery, which she wrote a book about in 2012, at the service. Ellingsen will speak about the nation's veterans and his experience in the armed forces, and Greene will discuss one of her ancestors who is buried in the cemetery, Casey said.

Despite being added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995, Casey said it's her understanding the majority of locals aren't aware of White Store Church and Evergreen Cemetery, which she considers, "...such a treasure in this county."

Casey said Sunday's Memorial Day service will serve as an opportunity for the public to honor Memorial Day and also visit the nationally registered church and cemetery, which is gearing-up to celebrate its bicentennial anniversary in 2020.

White Store Church and Evergreen Cemetery is located at the junction of State Route 8 and White Store Road in South New Berlin.
