Man arrested for stealing vehicles using fake checks

PLYMOUTH – A Plymouth man was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly using checks with insufficient funds to purchase vehicles from three victims.

Russell W. Davis, 48, of Plymouth, was charged with three counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, first-degree scheming to defraud, and issuing a bad check after Davis allegedly agreed to purchase vehicles in the Village of Sherburne and the Town of Plymouth, and used checks from an account closed in 2015 to pay for them.

Of the three vehicles allegedly purchased, police say only two were recovered and returned to the victims because Davis had already brought the third one to a scrap metal facility.

New York State Parole was advised of the arrest and issued a parole warrant for Davis, and he was arraigned in the Village of Sherburne Court then remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail.

Police said in an official statement, “The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.”
