Hotel project partners made preferred purchaser of former ward schoolhouse
NORWICH – The City of Norwich Common Council designated Michael and Daniel O’Reilly of Principal Design and Engineering, PLLC, and business owner and investor George Liasko as the preferred purchasers of city-owned property located at 125-127 East Main Street at its meeting on Tuesday, June 19.
Asked about the potential purpose of the property, which was at one point a City Ward 5 schoolhouse, Daniel O’Reilly said, “The East Main Street project is in the preliminary stages. We are still talking with our investors on our ultimate goal, but we should have some details in the coming months.”
He continued to say the project at 125-127 East Main Street is unrelated to the O’Reilly brothers’ and Liasko’s hotel project.
“The East Main Street property has no relation to our hotel project,” said Daniel O’Reilly. “This is a separate project the three of us are working on in parallel with the hotel.”
In December 2017, the O’Reilly brothers were selected to receive a $500,000 grant to renovate what was once the old Morrisville College building located at 16 South Broad Street into a hotel.
Asked about the progress of the hotel project, Daniel O’Reilly said, “We are still awaiting some approvals and agreements. The hotel project is progressing ... We have had promising meetings with our Hotel Management Company and some national chains; both entities have given us their necessary blessings to move forward.”
Daniel O’Reilly noted that while the hotel project is progressing, they have no immediate plans to break ground.
In February, the City of Norwich Joint Committees approved the designation of up to 70 parking spaces in the Hayes Street municipal parking lot and $25,000 in resources for the hotel project.
