Willis and Jacquette combine to toss no-hitter for Norwich to remain unbeaten; Marauders lose tough battle with Edmeston
NORWICH – Jordan Jacquette struck out Bryce Lynch for the final out of the game to give Norwich a no-hitter from the mound Thursday as he and Josh Willis, Norwich’s starter, teamed up on the mound. Norwich went on to win 8-0 over the visiting team from Mount Markham.
The home team scored first in their opening plate appearance as got on the board by Willis’ sacrifice fly to center field that sent Jacquette crossing home plate. Jacquette reached scoring position by a hard ground ball single then stealing second and third.
Norwich tacked on four more runs to their 1-0 lead in the third inning.
Isaac Bennett started the rally with a lead-off double to center. Blaine Orlando followed suit on the first pitch of his at-bat, sending a line drive to left field. His hit gave Bennett plenty of time to score from second.
Torin Lawerence drilled the ball to center field, batting Orlando in for the second run of the inning. Jacquette racked up his second hit of the game when he sent a line drive to right that scored Lawerence, making the score 4-0.
Norwich’s final run of the inning was an nearly replay of their first run of the game. Only difference was Willis recorded a single with a line drive to center field. Jacquette reached home once again.
In the fourth and fifth innings, Norwich was able tally three more runs for the final score of 8-0.
Willis toed the rubber first, going five innings with zero hits recorded. He struck out 11 Mount Markham batters. Jacquette threw final two innings in relief, earning the save. The two combined for four walks, the only base runners Mount Markham saw.
Mason Beigh led things off on the hill for Mount Markham. He lasted six innings, allowing 12 hits and eight runs while striking out one.
The offense of Norwich racked up 12 hits on the day with Jacquette going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the home team. He scored three runs and picked up one RBI.
A multiple hit game went to Trey Bates and Orlando, as each managed two hits apiece. Willis led the RBI column with three for the contest.
Norwich will host Unadilla Valley on Tuesday, July 10 for the final game of the regular season. UV’s only loss this season has been to Norwich and will be looking for revenge while Norwich looks to hold onto their perfect regular season record. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Edmeston 13, Sherburne-Earlville 10
SHERBURNE – In a high scoring affair, Edmeston tallied five runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead over Sherburne-Earlville. In the bottom half of the inning, The Marauders were only able to muster up two runs, giving the visiting Edmeston team the 13-10 win Thursday evening.
Edmeston struck first, scoring their first run of the contest to open the game. The next two innings added another four runs to the scoreboard, jumping out to a 5-0 lead.
The Marauders responded by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the third.
Two singles by Blaine Blinebry and Carver Pinney opened the big scoring frame for Sherburne-Earlville. With a base open, Nick Ragonese drew a walk to load the bases for Brett Bates.
Bates saw the opportunity and jumped on it, needing only two pitches to do so. He drilled a shot to center field, scoring both Blinebry and Pinney. Ragonese was held at third as Bates stood at second for the almost bases clearing double.
The next play saw Ben Menard hit a high pop fly to just on the outside of the infield over the second baseman. As the ball dropped into play, Ragonese scored and Bates advanced to third.
Preston Eaves drew a walk to once again load the bases for Troy Fleming.
This time, Fleming sent a shot to deep center field that allowed for all base runners to score while he was held up at third for the triple.
Continuing the rally with the score now 6-5 was Mitchell Winton, who looked at four straight pitches that were called balls.
With Mason Goedel up to bat, Fleming scored by stealing home to leave Winton on base. Goedel dropped a bunt back to the pitcher. The throw to first recorded the first out of the inning as the Edmeston defense was able to get Goedel out. Winton moved into scoring position on the play but was unable to cross home plate as he was picked off at third.
At the conclusion of the inning, the Marauders led 7-5. S-E held onto the lead until Edmeston tied the game in the top of the fifth at 7-7.
Edmeston took the lead back in the top of the sixth when Garrett Lum scored. Sherburne-Earlville tied the game once again in the bottom of the inning as Wyatt Uhlig scored on an error.
The final lead of the game came when Edmeston’s Lum hit a two-run home run to center field, making the score 13-8.
Sherburne-Earlville faced their final chance of comeback in the bottom of the seventh but was unfortunately able to tally just two runs, giving Edmeston a 13-10 win.
Lum ended the game going 3-for-3 with five RBI’s to lead Edmeston’s offensive production. He nearly completed the cycle for the game as he needed just the single. Edmeston scored at least one run in every inning of the game.
Bates, Menard and Eaves all racked up two hits in the game while Fleming led the RBI column for S-E with four.
Sherburne-Earlville will travel to Greene on Monday, July 9 for the final game of their regular season schedule. First pitch will be thrown at approximately 6 p.m.
