Norwich stays perfect behind Jacquette’s 2nd no-hitter
NORWICH – Jordan Jacquette, Norwich’s ace on the mound, tossed his second no-hitter of Otsenango Pony League season as he and the rest of the team topped Unadilla Valley 17-0 on Tuesday.
Jacquette pitched the full five innings of the game that were played, striking out seven UV batters with zero hits and runs tallied against him.
Unadilla Valley did see base runners throughout the contest as Jacquette walked five. Drew Emrich of UV reached the base paths twice in the contest, making the most of his three trips to the plate.
Teammates Gavin Bonczkowski, Owen Hill and Jacob Figger accounted for the other three walks.
In their first plate appearance, Norwich took a 4-0 lead. In the second inning, the home team extended their lead by tacking on another 10 runs.
Helping Norwich were the unfortunate errors made by the UV fielders. Throughout the contest, Unadilla Valley recorded five, allowing eight of Norwich’s runs to score.
With the way Jacquette was on the hill and his defense helping shut out the Unadilla Valley, Norwich cruised to the 17-0 win in just five innings.
Norwich’s offense totaled just seven hits in the game. Six of the seven produced at least one run for the home team.
Torin Lawerence and Josh Willis both ended in the day going 2-for-2 at the plate. Willis edged out his teammate in the RBI column, totaling four while Lawerence picked up three. Mike Hagen did not record a hit in the game but tallied two RBIs due to fielder’s choice plays by UV.
The other three hits for Norwich came from the bats of Kaden Collins, Logan Ford and Blaine Orlando.
Norwich now sees a record of 9-0 with just one game remaining in the regular season schedule. They will head down Route 12 to Sherburne for a make-up game on Wednesday. Sherburne-Earlville will look to end the perfect record of Norwich. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Following the conclusion for Wednesday’s game, playoffs for the Otsenango Pony league will begin. The schedule is still to be announced.
