Car accident in Norwich causes vehicle to flip over

NORWICH – A two vehicle accident occurred in the City of Norwich on Monday, and resulted in a car rollover with no reported injuries.

According to Norwich Fire Department Chief Jan Papelino, the accident occurred at 5:29 p.m., on Monday, while the drivers were on Mitchell Street in the City of Norwich.

"The 911 call came in as a rollover on Mitchell Street," said Papelino.

He said upon the fire department's arrival, the individuals involved in the accident appeared startled, but unharmed.

"This is why it's so important to wear your seatbelt when you drive, seatbelts save lives," he said.

Papelino said there were children in a vehicle involved in the accident, but no injuries were reported at that time.

"Accidents can become especially dangerous when a car flips over, and we're glad everyone made it out okay," he said.

According to Papelino, Mitchell Street was closed for approximately an hour before emergency crews could get the turned over vehicle back on its wheels and towed away.

Fire crews that responded to the scene reported the accident occurred after one vehicle attempted pass the other as it slowed down in the street.

Norwich Police Department investigated the crash but were not able to release the findings by press time.
