Trojans hand Whitney Point first loss of the season

WHITNEY POINT – Greene opened their season with a tough test against Whitney Point and came out the 2-1 winners over the defending state championship Eagles.

“It was a surreal feeling for us,” said Greene head coach Christine Battaglini. “We have been waiting for this moment for a long time.”

Battaglini stated while it was very exciting, the players were surprised. “We were prepared for this game and it showed."

The Lady Trojans found the net in the first half, just three minutes into the game when Olivia Kennedy fired a shot past Eagles' keeper Emma Morgan.

Whitney Point was awarded 22 corners but was only able to capitalize on one opportunity due to the intense play for Greene's goalie Brooke Austin. Austin stopped 10 of the Eagles 22 put on goal, some an incredible save according to Battaglini.
