Tornado defeat Saints for league win to split back-to-back games

NORWICH – The Purple Tornado hosted Seton Catholic in a STAC conference match-up Saturday afternoon where they came out the victors 1-0.
A Norwich senior connection between Gabe Gawronski and Alex Taylor led to the lone goal scored by either team in the first half.
Holding on the 1-0 lead going into the second half, the Tornado’s defensive game fought off any attempts by the Seton Catholic Saints.
One day earlier, Delhi defeated the Tornado in a non-league game, 4-1.
The Bulldogs were led to victory by Alex Haight and Christian Imperi, each had one goals and one assist. Teammates David Sarkovski and Logan Aikens also found the back of the net for one goal each and Conor Aikens finished with one assist.
Taylor once against recorded the assist as Mujuni Mutabiilwa netted the Tornado’s lone goal.
Dakota Franklin made four saves in both games of the back-to-back.
Norwich, now 3-4, hosts Oneonta at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on their home turf.

Adirondack 4, Sherburne-Earlville 0
BOONEVILLE – Scheduled five straight road games, the Sherburne-Earlville Marauders faced the Adirondack Cougars Friday towards the end of the long stretch of travel. Adirondack took advantage of the tired road team, winning 4-0.
The Cougars were led by Keagan Case, who scored two goals to bring down the Marauders. His teammate Rowan Wysocki rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 78th minute of play.
“Defensive miscues, an own goal, and lack of rhythm on offense were telltale signs of a long week of travel,” said S-E head coach Michael Rodriguez.
The Marauders play on Tuesday where they finish their road trip in VVS at 4:30 p.m. Sherburne-Earlville will then have their first league home game on Thursday against league leaders Clinton before going back on the road to Afton-Harpursville on Friday.

Greene 1, Fallsburg 0
ONEONTA – Greene’s Michael Repp netted a goal in the first half as the Trojans impoved to 7-1 by defeating Fallsburg on Saturday during the Strong as Heck Festival in Oneonta.
Repp received a pass from teammate Scout McCumiskey before placing his shot on goal, past the Fallsburg keeper.
Greene’s keeper Kevin Gyurik stopped five shots, shutting down any Fallsburg opportunities in the second half. Gyurik recorded his second shut-out of the season.
Greene travels to Delhi on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Unadilla Valley 1, Afton/Harpursville 0
AFTON – Unadilla Valley’s Ben Avolio took a shot in the first half of their game against Afton/Harpursville. The ball was defelected into the goal, giving the Storm the 1-0 win on the road.
Afton/Harpursville’s keeper Riley Livermore stopped 15 shots in the loss while his counterpart in the UV goal, Collin Grant, made two saves.
The Storm hosts Walton Tuesday afternoon while Afton/Harpursville will play Sidney on their home field also. Both games are slated for 4:30 p.m.
