NEW BERLIN – The Unadilla Valley seniors and their teammates gave their fans a show on Friday, winning 8-1 on senior night against Sidney in a MAC league game.
After taking a 3-0 lead in the first half, head coach Jeanine Potter and the Storm underclassman honored their six seniors – Cearah DaCostaFaro, Malinda Keach, Shelby Meade, Gabriella Potter, Jessica Smith and Kirsten White – during the intermission.
UV’s senior Meade recorded two goals and an assist to lead the Storm. Six of her other teammates found the back of the net as the Unadilla Valley offense fired a total of 19 attempts at Sidney’s keeper, Crystal Bivar. Bivar made 12 stops between the posts.
Keach, DaCostaFaro, Potter, Kyleigh George, Gracie Oglesby all had a goal while the usual goalie for Unadilla Valley, Meegan White, saw some field time and was able to add another.
Savannah Baldwin received a pass from Mariah Gifford to score the Lady Warriors’ lone goal of the contest.
Two days earlier, the Lady Storm defeated Greene for the second time in a row by a score of 2-0 to give them their eighth of the season.
UV’s George made a pass to her teammate Meade who then finished the play into the back of the net, giving the road team a 1-0 lead.
The one goal advantage lasted through halftime and into the second half.
Meade returned the favor by sharing the ball to DaCostaFaro as she fired the ball past the Greene keeper with 18:02 left in the game, securing the win.
Greene’s goalie Katelyn Pratt made 10 saves in the contest, stopping all but the two UV goals.
Unadilla Valley plays at host to Oxford at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for their final regular season game. With a 9-4 record, the Storm has qualified for sectional play, which will start at the conclusion of the conference tournament.
