Blackhawks overcome the Storm in a 5 game battle

OXFORD – The Oxford Lady Blackhawks and the Unadilla Valley Lady Storm needed all five games to determine the winner of their MAC league match Wednesday night before Oxford came out on top as they took the final three games, improving to 7-1 on the season.
Unadilla Valley took the first two games, winning 25-19 and 25-18. The Storm just needed to win the third game to come out with the match victory on the road. The Blackhawks had other plans.
In the third game, Oxford came out firing. The Blackhawks took the set with a score of 25-14.
Once again, UV could have put the host team away by winning the fourth game. As the score was closer than the previous set, Oxford held on for the game four win by a score of 25-21 to force a fifth and final game.
Both teams battled in the final game but it was the Blackhawks who overcame the two game deficit to win the set 25-19, ultimately winning the match.
Oxford and Unadilla Valley received strong play from several players. Kelsey Drewniak hustled throughout the match, recording 19 digs while teammate Andrea Dempsey added 13. Both Drewniak and Dempsey added three aces to their stat-lines.
Allison Beckwith dished out seven assists and finished six points on her kill attempts. Teammate Jessie Howe had six digs and six kills and Allison Paster tallied three aces and seven digs.
The Storm received 16 digs, 11 assists and five aces from Erin Kelly while teammate Rebecca Ruffino led their defense with 30 digs.
Sierra Schrag added five aces and 13 assists, Desiree Furgeson recorded eight kills and Jenna Hitt tallied five aces and nine kills.
Oxford’s next game will be their senior night game on Tuesday against Harpursville/Afton. The Blackhawks will honor eight senior before their match. Unadilla Valley hosts Delhi on Tuesday also. Both matches are scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
