Man accused of burglary pleads not guilty and asks for release due to drug conditions

NORWICH – A Plymouth man appeared in Chenango County Court on Friday and pleaded not guilty after police said he stole over $2,800 in household items.


Austin R. Demuth, 24, of Plymouth is charged with second-degree burglary, a class C felony, fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony, and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.


Allegedly, during the month of July Demuth entered a home on County Road 47 in the Town of Pharsalia and stole a flat screen television, computer monitor, miscellaneous tools, jewelry, scrap metal, and various other items from within. According to his indictment the approximate value of the property was $2,868.30.

In court on Friday, Chenango County Assistant District Attorney Michael Ferrarese said Demuth, "Did it because he needed the money."
