UV’s 20 point 3rd quarter leads to win number 2

SIDNEY – The Unadilla Valley Lady Storm basketball squad is off to a hot start this season after winning their second game of the season behind strong performances of Sophie Off and Shelby Meade.
Off went 9-16 (56.2 percent) from the floor, dropping a game-high 18 points in the 44-25 victory over the host Sidney Warriors on Wednesday. Meade did her damage on the boards, recording a double-double with 11 rebounds and 11 points.
The Storm’s defense held Sidney to just four points in the opening quarter of play to lead 12-4.
The Warriors, however, answered by shutting down UV in the second stanza and went on a run of their own behind Emma Simmons’ seven points. Sidney closed the Storm lead down to two as both teams went into the halftime break.
Unadilla Valley head coach Brandi Whitbeck contributed the first half comeback by the Warriors to the 18 turnovers her team had and Sidney converting on the miscues.
At the start of the second half, the Storm came out focused and ready as they went on a 20-0 run. During the third quarter scoring stretch, UV saw points from six different players.
“We came out in the third, buckled down and went on a nice run,” said Whitbeck. “We are definitely a work in progress.”
Meade added five steals to go along with her double-double. Kirsten White ended the contest with six points while sister Meegan tallied four. Kayla Christian chipped in four points for the Storm as well.
Simmons led the Warriors with 16 points in the loss.
Unadilla Valley (2-0) will look to continue their win streak when they host Edmeston at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
