Norwich's Peebles fights to stay open
NORWICH – After receiving news that their store is scheduled to close in January, Norwich's Peebles and its supporters will meet on Saturday to sign a petition and discuss what individuals can do to help keep their local store open.
According to Former Norwich Peebles Manager Todd Meseck, the event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Norwich's Peebles, and the goal of the event is to convince Stage Store's to keep Norwich's Peebles store open.
"The point of this event is to let stage stores know we value this store being open and want it to stay in our community," said Meseck. "We've reached out to Norwich Mayor Christine Carnrike, and she said she'll do what she can to help."
According to Carnrike, she's reached out to the mayor of Sidney and they were successful in keeping their Peebles store open.
"I contacted the mayor of Sidney because they were successful in saving their Peebles," said Carnrike. "I want to find out what their approach was and how they were successful."
She said the store seems to be a viable option in our community and she'd hate to another business go.
"If I don't hear from them tomorrow I'll make my own call to corporate and see if there's any room for discussion," she said. "I'm not sure if we can do anything to change their minds, but we have to try."
