Lady Vikings 4th quarter comeback secures second win of season; Oxford and Greene suffer losses

OTSELIC – Trailing the McGraw Eagles 21-15 at the halftime break, the Lady Vikings of Otselic Valley closed the third quarter still down by eight points. With 45 seconds remaining in the contest, OV’s Gracie Costa hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 34-34.
30 seconds later, Leah Kalin of the Vikings hit one of three attempts at the foul line to take a 35-34 lead. Playing smart defense, Otselic Valley held onto the lead for their second straight win.
McGraw held a 13-5 advantage after the first quarter but the Vikings answered by outscoring the Eagles 10-8 in the second, closing down the lead to six points.
Otselic Valley score 14 points down the final stretch and held their opponent to just five points in the quarter.
Costa finished with nine points while teammate Maygan Roy ended the night with a team-high 10 and pulled down eight rebounds in the late game comeback.
Jessica Comfort added eight boards in the win for the the Vikings and Cassie Argen recorded seven rebounds and eight points. Kalin chipped in six points, including the game-winning free throw and had four steals in the contest.
OV picked up their first win of the season at Afton on Friday night when they beat Cincinnatus at the Crimson Knights annual Tip-off Tournament.
The Vikings lead 15-10 at halftime and with their 28 point second half, they went on to beat their conference foe in the non-league consolation game, 43-28.
Agren led OV in the scoring column with 15 points while Roy added 13 in the contest. Kalin also scored in double digits, finishing with 10.
The Vikings Agren also led the team in their loss against Laurens in the first round, scoring 16 points.
Otselic Valley (2-2, 1-1) travels to Cincinnatus for an early season rematch on Thursday for their third league game of year. Game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

Franklin 37, Oxford 22
FRANKLIN – The host Franklin Purple Devils held the Blackhawks of Oxford to just six made field goals as they went on to win 37-22 Monday night.
Franklin led 12-2 after one quarter of play but the Blackhawks responded in the second, outscoring the Purple Devils 10-4.
Leading 16-12 at halftime, Franklin came out of the break and held Oxford to just 10 points for the entire second half while the host team put up 21 on the scoreboard in the final 16 minutes.
The Blackhawks shot just 13-percent from the floor for the game and finished 10-for-23 at the foul line.
Karley Miller ended the game with a double-double, her third this season, as she grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and scored a team-high 11 points. Allison Beckwith and Madalyn Barrows each pulled in seven boards off the glass while Beckwith chipped four points.
Franklin’s Kayla Campbell scored a game-high 16 points, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 at the foul line while hitting two 3-pointers. She also pulled down eight rebounds to lead her team in the win.
Julie Archibald added ten points for the Purple Devils and teammate Madelynn Ackley had seven rebounds.
With the loss to Franklin, Oxford ends their three game win streak.
The Blackhawks third straight win came over the weekend against the Marathon Olympians with a final score of 42-36 at home. Oxford led at the end of the first half by a point but a 13-7 run in the third quarter aided in the six point win.
Marathon outscored the Blackhawks in the final quarter of play 12-11 but the eight minute stretch out of the intermission gave the host team the win.
Miller picked up her second double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Barrows and teammate Caitlyn Quigley each scored 10 points in the contest and Hannah Hodge added nine boards for the Blackhawks.
Oxford (3-2) looks to rebound from the loss when they take on Afton Thursday at home. Game time is slated for a 7:15 p.m. start time.

Delhi 36, Greene 32
GREENE – A defensive battle between the 2017 Class D New York State champion Delhi and the Lady Trojans of Greene ensued Thursday night. The Bulldogs came out with the 36-32 win after a 12-7 run before the half helped them gain the lead of the host Trojans, which Delhi was ablt to hold onto from the remainder of the contest.
The two teams were tied at 11-11 after the first quarter but Delhi’s run in the second gave them a five point lead into the halftime break.
Out of the intermission, the two teams clamped down on the defensive end as the Lady Trojans allowed just 13 points to be scored by the Bulldogs.
On the otherside, Delhi held Greene to 14 points in the final 16 minutes of play, allowing for their lead to hold for the four point win.
The Bulldogs’ Anna Post led all scorers with nine points and she added nine rebounds to her statline. Teammate Sylvia Liddle finished with four blocks and chipped in six points.
Greene’s Emma Smith scored a team-high eight points in the loss while Kylee Peck added six and McKenna Sergi tallied five. Both Peck and Sergi recorded the only 3-pointers for Greene
“We turned the ball over too much last night and we showed our inexperience,” said Greene’s head coach Dave Gorton on the loss. “Our defense was strong in the second half. We are making strides but we need to take more shots.”
Greene (2-1) hosts conference foe Unadilla Valley Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
