Tornado scores 50 in second half to come away with third straight win

Erickson scores 21 to lead Trojans past B-G; OV 2-0 in league play

CHENANGO VALLEY – After a flat start in the first half, the Norwich Purple Tornado scored 50 in the second half to take the lead in the fourth quarter to beat the Chenango Valley Warriors 74-63 for their third straight win of the season.
Norwich trailed by five in the first quarter and the slow start continued into the second stanza as the Warriors held a nine point lead at halftime. Helping keep his team in the game, Norwich’s J.T. Vinal tallied eight first half points while the the rest of the scoring was spread throughout the team.
Out of the break, the Purple Tornado went on a tear that was lead by Marcus Cashman’s 13 points the 25 point quarter for Norwich. Nine of Cashman’s points came from the 3-point line as he caught fire. However, Chenango Valley still held the advantage by two points as the two teams headed into the final eight minutes of play.
Also aiding in the Norwich comeback was their hard-nose defense and strong presence on the glass. As a team, the Tornado forced at least 12 turnovers by the Warriors and pulled down a total of 29 rebounds, 21 of them coming on the defensive end to allow CV just one-shot trips on their offensive end of the floor.
In the fourth, Norwich went 10-for-12 at the free throw line and received two big 3-point buckets from Carson Maynard and an additional deep ball from Thomas Flanagan.
The Purple Tornado defense held the Warriors 12, their lowest point total of any quarter in the contest.
Cashman led all scorers as he ended the night with 23 points. Vinal finished with 20 points, sinking six of 10 attempts from the floor and shooting 88.9-percent at the free throw line (8-for-9) while Maynard shot 75 percent from behind the 3-point arc to record 13 points in the contest.
Mujuni Mutabiilwa tallied six points but nearly came home with a double-double the hard way as he pulled in 10 rebounds and dished out eight assists in the game.
As a team, Norwich committed just nine turnovers for their lowest total this season.
Chenango Valley’s offense saw four different played score double digits in the loss with Nathan Kline scoring 13 to lead the team. Riley Spencer chipped in 11 while Travis Kraack and Max Singer added 10 points each.

Greene 68, Bainbridge-Guilford 52
BAINBRIDGE – The Greene Trojans scored 26 points in the first quarter and followed it with 20 in the second en route to a 68-52 win over the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats on the road Tuesday night.
Greene’s Nate Erickson scored a game-high 21 points, knocking down two 3-point field goals in the early minutes of the first stanza. Erickson finished with 11 of his 21 in the eight minute stretch as a part of the Trojans’ 26-9 run.
Erickson hit two more 3-pointers in the second and Nate Parker scored seven points as he went 3-for-4 at the foul line. Greene went into the locker room at halftime leading by 23 points.
The Bobcats didn’t quit though. B-G came out in the second half strong, outscoring the Trojans 16-12 behind a balanced scoring effort that was led by Tom Palmatier’s seven points. Palmatier pulled down 10 boards and finished the game with a team-high 17 points to record his second straight double-double this season.
Bobcats’ head coach Brad Aldrich said that his team just needs to figure out a way to start the game better and they will be in games like the one played Tuesday.
Haiden Burns chipped in 13 points in the loss, nine coming in the second half for Bainbridge-Guilford and Trent Thornton added nine.
Both Parker and Alec Frair ended the night with nine points while Spencer Klumpp scored seven.
Greene’s win over B-G comes after heartbreaking overtime loss to Sidney Friday night, 54-51.
The Trojans led by one point heading in the fourth quarter but as the game was a battle back and forth between the two teams, Sidney tied the game up late in the fourth quarter to force the extra four minutes of basketball.
In the overtime session, the Warriors’ Liam Matthews went 3-for-4 at the foul line to help lead Sidney past Greene.
Nate Barry of the Trojans led the team with 13 points and Tristan Austin scored 10 in the loss.
Matthews tallied a game-high 22 points while teammate Ryan Harris put up 18.
Greene (2-1) hosts Unadilla Valley Friday while Bainbridge-Guilford heads five minutes up the road to Sidney on the same night. Both games are scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. tip-off.

 Otselic Valley 52, Stockbridge Valley 46
OTSELIC – The Vikings’ Garrett Wood and Lane Adams combined for 40 of their teams 52 points as Otselic Valley remained undefeated in league play Tuesday night, beating Stockbridge Valley 52-46.
OV held at 25-16 advantage by halftime and continued to grow that lead in the third quarter when they tacked another 16 points on to the scoreboard.
Stockbridge Valley out scored the host Vikings in the final eight minutes of play but the lead Otselic Valley held from the first three quarters was enough for the win.
Wood and Adams finished the night with 20 points each. Wood led with eight shots made from the floor while Adams hit more free throws in the game.
Vikings teammate Micah Lyons added eight points in the game and Justin Graham led the team in the rebound column, pulling down four in the win.
Wyatt Becker poured in a game-high 23 points in the Stockbridge Valley loss.
“It was good shooting night for the us,” said OV head coach Jacob Preston. “We needed to shoot well because it was difficult for us to get looks inside tonight. Garrett Wood and Lane Adams shot well for us tonight on the offensive end.
“Hats off to Wyatt Becker for Stockbridge Valley with his 23 points to go along with his many rebounds,” continued Preston.
The win over Stockbridge Valley was a nice rebound from the loss at Poland the Vikings suffered Friday night.
Poland took the early lead and held on for the remainder of the contest, despite the second half comeback attempt by OV.
Dlyan Miller of Poland led all scorers with 20. Otselic Valley received balanced scoring throughout the lineup. Michah Lyon finished with a team-high 10 points and Lane Adams ended up one point and one rebound shy of a double-double, tallying nine in both stat columns.
The Vikings (2-2, 2-0) will look to make it a two game winning streak when they travel to Brookfield Friday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
