Greene’s defense key in win over Lady Storm
GREENE – A strong defensive effort by the Lady Trojans of Greene led to a 50-26 home win over the Unadilla Valley Storm Tuesday night.
Greene held UV to just 16 points over the first three quarters of play and offensively received balanced scoring through their lineup to go into the final eight minutes leading 35-16.
In the fourth, the Storm were able to put 10 points on the scoreboard by making half of their free throw attempts.
The Trojans made 16 field goals throughout the game and 12 of those put through the net came from an assist as they found the open person with great ball movement.
“We played well throughout,” said Greene’s head coach Dave Gorton. “Some of our turnover were for over passing but we are an unselfish team.”
The Trojans’ McKenna Sergi had 5 steals and 3 assists to go along with her game-high 16 points. Teammate Emma Smith was a force inside, grabbing seven rebounds and finished the game with 14 points.
The Storm was led by Sophie Off and Shelby Meade offensively, both ended the night with eight points each.
The Lady Trojans travel to Whitney Point on Friday for a non-league game with the Eagles while Unadilla Valley is off until December 20 when they host the Bobcats for the second meeting between the two teams this season. Greene’s game is slated for a 7:15 p.m. start time Friday night.
