Lady Trojans’ win on the road in overtime
WHITNEY POINT – Kylee Peck of the Lady Trojans drained a 3-pointer at the end of regulation, sending their Friday night game against Whitney Point into overtime. In the extra four minutes of play, Greene closed out the game with a 45-42 win.
Peck shot to force overtime wasn’t an easy one. With a Whitney Point defender in her face and ice in her veins, Peck sent the ball in the air and through the net as the buzzer sounded.
Greene started out flat as they were held scoreless in the first quarter but used that as motivation in the second, outscoring the Lady Eagles 11-6 to pull within five at halftime.
A buzzer-beater by the Trojans’ Katelynn Pratt before the intermission helped Greene cut the deficit down and shifted the momentum in their favor.
“It was a great win for us, especially with such a young team, on the road,” said Trojans’ head coach Dave Gorton.
Greene’s Emma Smith led the team 18 points, seven rebounds and five blocks as a force on the inside. McKenna Sergi added nine rebounds and five assists to her 11 points in the scoring column while teammate Peck also reached double digits with 10 points.
The Trojans host Dryden for a non-league game on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
