Brookfield’s buzzer beater hands Vikings a heartbreaking loss
BROOKFIELD – Close throughout the enitre contest, the Otselic Valley Vikings boys basketball team fell just one point short of the upset to Brookfield Friday night, 48-47.
OV trailed by four points late in the fourth and cut it to one point but a Brookfield layup put them back up by three points.
On the very next play, the Vikings Dakota Adams finished a three point play by knocking down a free throw after getting fouled on a made basket. His and-1 play tied the game up at 45-45.
Defensively, OV made a stop to get the ball back and converted on the offensive end as Adams made another two foul shots to give the Vikings a 47-45 lead with 10 seconds left in the game.
Brookfield then tossed up a prayer towards their basket. The ball bounced around the rim then dropped through the net to as the buzzer sounded to give the Beavers the one point win.
After a 17-13 first quarter, Brookfield led by just four points. The two middle quarters of action saw the teams match basket for basket as both the Vikings and Beavers each scored 14 in the second and six in the third.
Leaving just the final eight minutes to battle for the win, Otselic Valley outscored the host Beavers 14-11 but the heave at the end allowed Brookfield to squeak by for the win.
OV’s Lane Adams led the way with 16 points while teammate Justin Graham added 10. Graham also pulled down a team-high nine boards. Dakota Adams finished with six points, five coming in the final scoring stretch for the Vikings.
Stand out play for Brookfield come from Kodie Abrams. He led the Beavers offensive attack, scoring a game-high 17 points. Josh Elliott chipped in 12 for Brookfield in the win.
Otselic Valley (2-3) travels to McGraw on Thursday for another league battle. Game time is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.

SIDNEY – The Bobcats of Bainbridge-Guilford had a slow start to their game against Sidney on Friday. Bainbridge-Guilford had a strong second quarter but couldn’t recover from the 17-2 first stanza run by the host Warriors, suffering a 62-28 loss.
The Bobcats scored 10 points in the second behind points from four different players but a combination of not getting the offense going and the Sidney defense limiting their opportunites, B-G couldn’t mount a comeback.
Bainbridge-Guilford saw 13 points from Tom Palmatier and eight in the scoring column by Trent Thronton while Michael Stevens knocked down a 3-pointer, Haiden Burns score two from the floor and Gage Strong added a bucket in the game.
Sidney was led by Mike Gravelin’s 16 points and Liam Matthews added 14.
The Bobcats are battling a few injuries but are looking to recover by their next contest, which is Wednesday when they travel to Unadilla Valley. Game time is scheduled to start at 7:15 p.m.
