South New Berlin Fire District approves $1.1 million project

SOUTH NEW BERLIN – South New Berlin Fire District residents voted to approve a $1.1 million project to purchase property and pay for the construction for a new fire department building.

According to officials the vote lasted until 9 p.m. in South New Berlin Firehouse, and voters approved the project and the resolution that supports it.

“Bond resolution of the South New Berlin Fire District, in the Town of New Berlin, Chenango County, New York, authorizing the purchase of 3519 State Highway 8, South New Berlin, NY, construction of an addition and improvements to the existing structure at that property," states the resolution.

It adds that the estimated maximum cost, everything included, is $1.1 million dollars.

The resolution also states, "(T)he period of probable usefulness of said project is twenty-five years, and providing for the levy and collection of taxes to pay the principle of said bonds and the interest thereon as the same become due and payable."

When asked for further information into the need for another firehouse, fire officials failed to give a response before press deadline.
