Edmeston Museum invites students to workshop inspired by local artist
EDMESTON – Later this month the Edmeston Muesum will honor the accomplishments of a renowned area artists by hosting a free crafts workshop for fourth to eighth grade students.
From 2 to 4 p.m. on January 21 the Edmeston Museum will be offering its first "School Break Workshop." The workshop is for all area students and there is no cost to attend.
The workshop will be about the history of Ellen Clapsaddle, a native of Richfield Springs, and postcard artist.
Clapsaddle became an internationally known illustrator specifically of small cards, used as postcards. She traveled to Germany prior to World War I and developed the Wolf Company, an art publishing organization.
She later died in New York City but a group paid to have her reinterred in Richfield. The Richfield Springs Historical Society and museum have loaned the Edmeston Museum a local collection of Clapsaddle's work.
Following a brief history, participants will make Valentine's Day cards using rubber stamps, quilling and other paper crafts.
