Lady Marauders snag league win despite rough shooting night; UV fall to Spartans
CLINTON – Sherburne-Earlville’s Kaitlyn Furner finished one rebound shy of a double-double, pouring in 17 points and pulling down 9 boards as the Lady Marauders brought home a Center State Conference 49-35 win over Clinton Friday night.
Furner racked up most of her points in the second and third quarters, recording 12 of her points in the 16 minutes of play.
Despite a 21-for-80 shooting night by S-E, the team put up double figures on the scoreboard in the first three quarters of action, where they held a 22 point lead.
Defensively, the Marauders caused a lot of disruption in the Clinton offense as they held their opponent to under 10 points in the same stretch of play.
Sherburne-Earlville’s Tessa Cole ended the night with a full statline – scoring seven point, grabbing eight rebounds, dishing seven assists and only recording two turnovers for the game.
Sage Ashton also had a nice night for the Marauders, chipping in basket in every quarter to finish with nine.
S-E (7-4, 2-2)’s next contest is Monday against non-league opponent Herkimer with a tip-off time scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

NEW BERLIN – The impressive defense of the Unatego Spartans as well as a rough shooting night by the Lady Storm of Unadilla Valley allowed the Spartans to pick up a 69-30 league win.
Morgan Perry and Meghan Perry combined to score 35 points for Unatego in the win as the Spartans jumped out a 17-5 lead after the first quarter.
The Storm answered in the second, scoring 14 in the quarter but Unatego continued to add to their lead by adding 22 onto the scoreboard before the break.
Unfortunately, things didn’t getting any better for UV after the intermission as they were held by the long and lanky defense of the Spartans to just 11 points for the entire second half.
“Their defense is impressive,” said Storm head coach Brandi Whitbeck. “They had a hand on every pass and they get out quick in transition. We just couldn’t get anything going and we had a ton of turnovers.”
Morgan Perry finished with a game-high 19 points while sister Meghan tallied 16 in the win for the Spartans. Teammate Hali Lucia also ended the night in double digits, chipping in 10 points.
The Storm were led by Sophie Off’s 10 points and Meegan White’s nine points in the loss.
Unadilla Valley (5-5, 0-3) travels to Delhi Tuesday before heading to Walton Friday. Both games are scheduled for 7:15 p.m. start times.
