Tornado too strong for Blue Devils in 92-34 win

NORWICH – The Lady Tornado controlled the tempo of the game from the opening tip to the final minutes as they rolled to a 9-234 win over the Chenango Forks Blue Devils Friday night, Norwich’s extending their win streak to four since their only set back of the season a week ago.
Norwich’s balance scoring saw five finish with double figures and everyone who was able to play in the game score at least two points. The Purple Tornado’s hot shooting night allowed the home team to put up 20-plus point in each of the four quarters of action.
Their usual intense defensive scheme game Norwich a 23-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. Halea Eaton, starting point guard for the Tornado, knocked down two 3-pointers for six of her nine points in the same eight minutes of play.
Norwich extended their lead by scoring 28 points in the second as seven different players recorded points. This time is was the Tornado’s Sydney Coggins dialing in from long-distance, draining three from beyond the arc. Norwich went into the halftime break leading by 27 and showed no signs of slowing down.
Turnovers and a rough shooting night plagued the visiting Blue Devils team as they scoring just two points in the third quarter. Chenango Forks was held by the Tornado defense to a total of 10 points in the second half.
Norwich’s bench played the majority of the second half and made a statement, scoring 30 of the Tornado’s 41 points in the 16 minutes of action. The whole game saw the girls off the bench score a total of 46 points, accounting for nearly half of Norwich’s offensive production.
Taylor Hansen finished the game as the leading scorer for the Tornado with 13. Coggins ended the night with 12 and Hailey Colabelli also putting up 12 points. Eaton and Emerson Burton each added 10 points in the contest.
Chenango Forks was led by Bri Fargnoli’s 13 point in the loss.
Norwich travels to long-time rival Oneonta on Tuesday, a test in their division schedule. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
