Brower trial postponed until April at the earliest

NORWICH – A motion to postpone the Brower trial from the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office was approved in court, and court officials said the trial won’t take place until April or June.


James Brower, 37, of Norwich is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree hindering prosecution, tampering with physical evidence, and making a false written statement.


Brower was scheduled to begin his trial on Monday, but the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office requested the trial be postponed while the office recruits additional prosecutors.

When asked about the postponement District Attorney Michael Ferrarese said, “I’m currently the only prosecutor in the office, and I can’t be out of the office for three weeks trying a murder case with 27 town and city courts that need to be covered in addition to all of the felony work.”
