Brower trial postponed until April at the earliest

NORWICH – A motion to postpone the Brower trial from the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office was approved in court, and court officials said the trial won’t take place until April or June.

James Brower, 37, of Norwich is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree hindering prosecution, tampering with physical evidence, and making a false written statement.

Brower was scheduled to begin his trial on Monday, but the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office requested the trial be postponed while the office recruits additional prosecutors.

When asked about the postponement District Attorney Michael Ferrarese said, “I’m currently the only prosecutor in the office, and I can’t be out of the office for three weeks trying a murder case with 27 town and city courts that need to be covered in addition to all of the felony work.”

According to court officials, the trial is now scheduled as either a backup for the Heather Franklin trial on April 1, or as the main trial on June 3.

Allegedly, Brower assisted Tobias Rundstrom-Wooding, with the rape and murder of 11-year-old Jacelyn O’Connor on July 30, 2017 in the Town of Norwich.

Rundstrom-Wooding pleaded guilty in June 2017, and is scheduled to serve 25-years-to-life in state prison.
