Marauders excellent passing display helps in win over Waterville
WATERVILLE – The Sherburne-Earlville Marauders rebounded from their loss to Cooperstown in style Tuesday night, knocking off the Waterville Indians 64-49 to improve to 8-4 overall.
The Marauders jumped out to a 19-6 lead after the first quarter with balanced scoring throughout the starting lineup. S-E’s head coach Kevin Vibbard attributed this to his team sharing the ball well and everyone hitting their shots when open.
The scoring slowed down in the second quarter for the Marauders as they put 11 on the scoreboard before the break but came out of the intermission firing. Ryan Asma led the scoring in the third with two 3-pointers – including one before the end of the stanza – falling through the net. He added a bucket from inside the arc to give him eight of Sherburne-Earlville’s 18 in the eight minutes of play.
Waterville responded in the fourth, scoring 21 points as a team but the lead created by the Marauders earlier in the contest was too much for the Indians to overcome.
Asma, Hunter Lane and Noah Posson ended the night with double digits as Asma and Posson put up 14 each and Lane led S-E with 15.
Derek Buell and Tyson Maxam matched Lane’s point total to pace Waterville in the loss.
The Marauders, who are undefeated in their league, return to Center State Conference divisional play on Friday when they travel to Canastota for a 7 p.m. start.
