NORWICH – It took nine matches before an Oneonta Yellowjacket wrestler was able to score any points during their bouts against host Norwich Wednesday. All but one of Norwich’s wins by pinfall came in the first period as the Purple Tornado dominated in their STAC divisional meet against Oneonta, winning 65-18.
The fastest bout of the meet was at 120 pounds with Norwich’s Mason Edwards coming out as the winner. Edwards put the Yellowjackets’ Alexis Metller down on her back in the first five seconds of the match and continued his move for the pin, ending the bout at 11 seconds.
Tyler Rice of the Tornado kicked the match off at 285 pounds and needed no time at all either. With just 47 ticks off the clock in the first period, Rice pinned Jeramiah Morris following his takedown seconds before.
In the next match, Norwich’s 99 pounder Max Morris carried his momentum from his second place finish at the Saratoga Invitational for another dual meet victory. Morris scored a tech fall at 3:09 with a 15-0 score. The Tornado youngster led 9-0 after one period and added a two point reversal as well as two nearfall counts in the first minute of the second.
On his journey back to the New York State Championships, defending 99 pound winner Dante Geislinger of Norwich needed just 47 seconds to pin his opponent, Oneonta’s Andrew Lenther. Geislinger landed an early takedown and had a five count nearfall before the official slapped the mat to signal in the pin.
