City Youth Bureau looks to give away its hockey equipment
NORWICH – The City of Norwich Youth Bureau will no longer provide hockey equipment at the ice rink. Instead, the equipment has been declared surplus and will be given away for free to anyone who wants it.
City of Norwich Youth Bureau Director Robert Mason said over the years the bureau has accumulated a quantity of assorted hockey equipment, but it has become too much for the facility to maintain and repair.
As a result, the city council declared the equipment surplus at its December meeting, allowing the bureau to give the equipment away for free to interested individuals. This does not include ice skates, which the bureau will be retaining and allowing people to use for free at the ice rink.
Some of the hockey equipment is in need of repair or regular maintenance, Mason said. His hope is for local youth who enjoy playing hockey at the ice rink to come and take the equipment and give it the usage and maintenance it deserves.
He added that he is grateful for all the people who made donations of hockey equipment over the years.
The equipment can be picked up when the ice rink is open at the Borden Avenue Skating Facility in Norwich. The ice rink has not been open yet this year due to warm temperatures, but Mason noted Mother Nature has been working on it.
