No. 8 Lady Tornado make it five straight

ENDICOTT – The Lady Purple Tornado jumped out to a 23-5 lead after the first quarter and continued to roll as they topped Class AA Union-Endicott Saturday afternoon 59-30.
Norwich had Taylor Hansen and Triniti Myers scored five while teammate Abby Flynn lead the way with six in the first stanza.
The scoring for the Lady Tornado slowed down in the second and third quarters as the team tallied 17 over the 16 minute span. The Tigers chipped away at the lead but were only able to come as close as 19 points.
In the fourth, Norwich ended the game with a 19-9 run. In the stanza, Ashton Wenzel of the Tornado scored all seven of her points – including a 3-point bucket.
For the game, Halea Eaton tallied 11 to lead all scorers. She drained two 3-pointers in the second half, one in each quarter, for six of her points. Flynn finished with nine while Myers, Hansen, and Hailey Colabelli also scored seven, matching Wenzel’s total.
U-E was led by two scorers with six points and three who tallied five.
The Purple Tornado travel to Chenango Valley on Tuesday as they start their second half of the STAC divisional schedule. Game time is slated for 7:15 p.m.

Walton 43, Unadilla Valley 36
WALTON – The Lady Storm of Unadilla Valley played tough against the host Walton Warriors on Friday according to their head coach Brandi Whitbeck. However, the UV girls basketball team was plagued by another rough shooting night in their 43-36 MAC loss Friday night.
The Storm shot 14-for-69 from the field (20.3-percent) in the loss, which included a scoreless second quarter for the road team.
UV jumped out to an early 14-4 lead after the first quarter behind Meegan White’s nine points. The Lady Warriors responded by shutting out the Storm defensively in their 8-0 run, which closed the UV lead down to two points at halftime.
Double-doubles by Walton’s McKenzie Clough and Olivia Harby aided in the comeback from the early game deficit.
Harby tallied nine points of her game-high 17 in the third quarter as the home team continued their momentum into the second half, outscoring the Storm, 16-6.
Unadilla Valley found a flow in the fourth, scoring 16 in the stanza but it was too late of a run as the Warriors added 18 in the fourth to hold on for the win.
Clough ended the night with 12 points and had a team-high 19 rebounds for the Warriors while Harby pulled in 13 boards.
White led the Storm with 14 points, while Sophie Off had seven for the Storm.
Unadilla Valley (5-7, 0-5) host Deposit/Hancock at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.
