Oxford plagued by turnovers in loss to Walton

OXFORD – The Warriors of Walton used the Oxford Blackhawks’ miscues to score 10 points, pulling away for the 57-35 win Midstate Athletic Conference win Friday night.

Walton’s defense caused Oxford to turn the ball over 19 times, scoring five times while holding the host team to single digits in the final three quarter.

The Blackhawks kept it close in the first quarter, pulling within two points at the end of the stanza with a bucket by Caitlyn Quigley.

The second quarter saw the Warriors pull away, using a 17-7 run to build a 12 point lead (29-17). During the run, Walton’s Olivia Harby scored eight of the 17 while teammate McKenzie Clough added six. Harby finished the game as the leading scorer, tallying 18 in the game – half coming from behind the 3-point arc.

Oxford put 18 second-half points onto the scoreboard but the Warriors continued to extend their lead, adding 14 point in each quarter.

Despite the loss, the Blackhawks’ edged out the Warriors in the rebounding column, finishing with 37 compared to Walton’s 35.

Allison Beckwith led Oxford in rebounding, pulling down nine boards off the glass. Quigley added seven rebounds while Madalyn Barrows grabbed six.
