Marauders remain at top of division with win over Canastota
Vikings’ Adams scores 24 in loss to Brookfield
CANASTOTA – Shooting 7-for-8 at the foul line in the late game stretch, the Sherburne-Earlville Marauders remained undefeated in Center State Conference divisional play, topping Canastota 44-29 Saturday afternoon.
Limiting the host team to just six points behind some great defense by the Marauders, S-E took a six point lead after the first quarter – eight coming from the hot shooting hand of Hunter Lane in the stanza.
In the second, however, Canastota cut into the lead with their nine points tallied, trailing by just one point as the two teams went into the locket room at half.
Once again displaying their lockdown defense in the third, the Marauders went on a run. Outscoring the Raiders 19-4 in the stanza, Sherburne-Earlville took a commanding 35-19 lead with one quarter of play remaining.
During the productive offensive quarter for S-E, Lane added another eight points while teammate Robert Hill drained two 3-pointers for six. To give the team three from long range, Ryan Asma added a third.
All but two points in the fourth came at the free throw stripe for the Marauders. Canastota slightly outscored Sherburne-Earlville but the deficit created in the third was too big for the Raiders to come back from.
Lane ended the afternoon with 18 points to lead all scorers. Hill and Noah Posson, who went 3-for-4 at the line in the fourth, added eight points each in the win for the Marauders.
Canatsota was led by Nathan Wood’s nine points and teammates Hunter Znuj and Kenny Coe chipped in five points.
Sherburne-Earlville (11-4, 5-0) and the Raiders matchup again on the floor for the second time Friday night. The Marauders host this time around with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
Brookfield 77, Otselic Valley 52
OTSELIC – The Vikings Lane Adams hit eight 3-pointers in the contest against Brookfield Friday night, counting for all of his 24 points, but the visiting Beavers used a 29 point lead at halftime to defeat Otselic Valley, 77-52, in the Central Counties League matchup.
Brookfield jumped out to an early 18 point lead after the first quarter, tallying 28 points as a team while defensively holding OV to 10.
The Beavers extended their lead to 29 by the intermission as they went on a 19-8 run in the second.
Out of the break, the Vikings scored double figures in the third as they attempted to cut in the Brookfield lead but once again, producing a 20 point quarter, the Beavers continued to increase the margin.
In the final quarter of play, Otselic Valley outscored the visiting team but putting up 21 points in the stanza but the damage done in the first 24 minutes was just too much to comeback from.
Adams led all scorers with his 24 points in the game. Brother Dakota also scored double figures in the contest, finishing with 16 points.
OV’s Garrett Wood kicked in nine points while Micah Lyon added the final three points of the Vikings 52. Lyon led Otselic Valley in rebounds, grabbing nine off the glass and Lane Adams pulled down six. Wood finished with three assists.
The Beavers saw three ended the night with nine points but were led by Kodie Abrams’ 15 points. Teammate Jonah Rogers finished with 14.
The Vikings (4-9, 3-6) are on the road Tuesday night against Fabius-Pompey for a non-league matchup.
