Popovich Comedy Pet Theater at Chenango Arts Council
NORWICH—The Chenango Arts Council is pleased to announce the world famous Popovich Comedy Pet Theater will be making a stop at the Martin Kappel Theater on Saturday, February 9 beginning at 7 p.m.
Voted the “best family show” in Las Vegas, Gregory Popovich's stage performance features a European-style circus extravaganza including physical comedy, juggling, acrobats from the Moscow Circus, plus highly intelligent dogs and cats living together on stage for one night only.
Popovich, a fifth-generation circus performer who learned early on how to develop strong bonds with animals, rescued the majority of his performers from shelters all over the country, and transformed them into Las Vegas stars.
As a gold medal winner in Paris, and a special award winner in Monte Carlo, Popovich and his pets have also been finalists on “America’s Got Talent” in addition to making the rounds on late night TV as guests of the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “The David Letterman Show,” and “Late Night with Craig Ferguson.”
"The Chenango Arts Council has a rich history of bringing internationally-acclaimed performances home to our small community,” said Arts Council executive director Alecia ONeill. “This show serves as a great opportunity for those who may not have the means to travel out to 'Vegas to experience the sights, atmosphere and culture of the Las Vegas Strip right here in their back yard.”
Joining the Arts Council on the day of the event, the Chenango SPCA (CSPCA) will be on hand to offer information on how community members can foster or adopt a rescue pet of their very own. As a “no kill” shelter, the CSPCA advocates for responsible long-term placement of each animal that comes to their Norwich facility through a well-established vetting process.
"Over the last eight years, the CSPCA has turned its back on utilizing euthanasia as a means of managing shelter population,” said Annette Clarke, CSPCA executive director. “The CSPCA found homes for more than 550 animals in 2018, placing more animals with families than came into the facility—a first in more than eight years.”
And while Popovich's philosophy on rescuing animals runs parallel to the CSPCA's mission of giving shelter animals a “second leash on life,” the event likewise serves as a community cooperative aimed at bringing awareness to pet adoption options for show-goers.
“In the spirit of community, we're happy to host a performance that makes room at the table to focus on the mission of other area nonprofits such as the CSPCA.” said ONeill.
The event, which is part of the CAC's 43rd season Performance Series, is made possible by corporate season sponsor NBT Bank of Norwich.
Do not miss this opportunity to see this unique family-friendly show featuring this legendary circus entertainer and his furry friends at the Martin Kappel Theater of the Chenango Arts Council located in downtown Norwich at 27 West Main Street.
