BGAH hands Sidney second dual meet loss of season

SIDNEY – Bainbridge-Guilford-Afton-Harpursville fought off Sidney’s late match comeback bid, handing the Warriors their second dual meet loss of the season with a final of 45-27.
With the match starting at 195 pounds, Sidney took an early win to lead 6-0. However, BGAH’s Rocco Arduini tied the meet score at 6-6 with his 4:19 pinfall win over the Warriors’ Justin Santiago. Arduini’s win was the first of four straight for the Bears.
BGAH’s Timmy James received a forfeit at 285 pounds then teammate Joey Florance pinned Lucas Demott of Sidney in the third period of the 99 pound bout. The Bears’ Jose Bivar took a 7-2 decision win over Tiana Savino at 106 pounds to give BGAH a 21-6 lead.
Sidney then took three victories back-to-back-to-back, tying the score at 21-21. During the three match winning run by the Warriors, Caleb Hartwell claimed the only pinfall win in the meet for his team at 126 pounds.
The next two matches saw a forfeit by Sidney but the Warriors quickly took three points back as Zach Harrington defeated Brady Buttice with a 7-2 decision.
Keeping his record at only two losses on the season, the Bears’ Brody Oleksak started off the second period with a reversal then added a near-fall count to give him a five point lead. Sidney’s David Gannon was able to scored three points during the 145 pound bout but Oleksak held on for the decision win.
The next match went into overtime with BGAH’s Hayden Lewis coming out on top of a 3-1 victory. Lewis tied the match at 1-1 with 15 seconds left as the official called stalling against Dan Calkings, the second time he issued a warning in the bout. Lewis landed a takedown to start the first overtime 30 second period, earning the win for the Bears.
The final win of the meet for Sidney came at 160 pounds when Reed Scott made the first move of the match, taking down BGAH’s Damian Stafford for the early lead. In the third period, Scott took the down position to start and reversed Stafford for two points and the 4-1 lead. The Warriors’ wrestler then rode the remaining time out, earning the last three points his team.
The meet closed out with back-to-back wins by the Bears as Shane Hoover kept his undefeated record intact, pinning Sidney’s Kevin McEwan, and Austin Eggleston used just a minute and five seconds to pin the Warriors’ Revor Harrington – the quickest bout of the meet.
BGAH is now off until the Section IV Class B Tournament, hosted once again at Whitney Point, on February 2.
