Appointed DA Michael Ferrarese seeks full term from voters

NORWICH – Acting Chenango County District Attorney Michael Ferrarese has announced his candidacy for a full four-year term as D.A. in this fall’s election.

Ferrarese was sworn in as Acting District Attorney on January 1st after former District Attorney Joseph McBride took office as a New York State Supreme Court Judge. Ferrarese previously served as First Assistant District Attorney before ascending to the top spot in the office.

“I’m running for District Attorney because there’s nothing more important to me that making Chenango County the best and safest place that it can be,” said Ferrarese. “I’ve worked hard over the past eight years while serving in the D.A.’s Office to ensure that justice is delivered for the victims of crimes and all of the people of our community.

Mr. Ferrarese joined the District Attorney’s Office in 2010 and was promoted to First Assistant District Attorney in 2015. During his tenure with the office, he has handled more than 500 felony cases and thousands of misdemeanor cases involving all manners of crimes – from murder to assault to drug trafficking and more.

“Working in the trenches in the D.A.’s Office and being active in our community has given me a close and personal perspective on the challenges facing our region,” added Ferrarese. “Opioids, meth and other drugs have been on the rise, and we need to be proactive in our approach to solving this crisis. I’m ready to step up and face these challenges head on and work with partners locally and at the State and Federal levels to find real solutions.”

Aside from his work as a prosecutor, Mr. Ferrarese has contributed countless hours to community organizations. He currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for the Chenango Foundation and on the Board of Directors for the Norwich YMCA, and has previously served on the Boards of the Chenango County Council on the Arts and Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County. He has also volunteered for the Chenango County SPCA and numerous additional community events and organizations.

A graduate of Manhattan College and Albany Law School, Ferrarese, 48, lives in Oxford with his wife, Heather (Bartle), and their daughter, Jillian.

The 2019 General Election is slated for November 5th.
