Milk tanker dumps thousands of gallons of milk after crash in Columbus

COLUMBUS – Law enforcement responded to a call that a milk tanker had crashed early Friday morning, and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Chenango County Department of Transportation, and the local fire department worked to contain the spill.

According to Chenango County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Joshua Gould, the crash occurred around 7 a.m. Friday on County Route 25 in the Town of Columbus.

"It appears that the driver got too close to the edge of the road and lost control of the vehicle," said Gould. "The driver isn't facing charges at this time."

According to a representative from the New York State Police Department Troop C Barracks, members from Troop C's Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit assisted the Chenango County Sheriff's Office with the roll over, and the tanker dumped several thousand gallons of milk after the crash.

Officials said the Department of Environmental Conservation Spill Response, Chenango County Department of Transportation, and the local fire department assisted on the scene.
